Yahoo Hosting
Jan 10th, 2009 | By Robby | Category: Featured articlesI don’t quite understand what is going on with Yahoo these days. I have been a customer and user of Yahoo for about 10 years now but there have been some changes lately that I’m not too happy with.
For starters, I have a site built with Yahoo that I built a long time ago. It was my first site I ever built and at the time I did not know much at all about building sites so I used the Yahoo site building software that was supplied with my hosting. Big mistake… I wish I would have read up a little bit about web design before I started building the site with Yahoo site builder.
One of the problems I’m having now is that I want to build the site with a different site building software (Dreamweaver) and I cannot because the software is coded different and they are not compatible. It’s like Yahoo is going under so bad that they try to force people to stay with them once they sign up with them. Another example of this is there domains prices. When you first buy your domain with Yahoo they charge you $10 like everyone else. After your first year is up they raise the price to $35 and say that everyone is raising the price. This is not true. I now use GoDaddy for all my domains and they never raise the price on you. It almost seems like Yahoo is in so much trouble cause Google is kicking there a$$ that they have to do something to try and make up for it.
Another problem with Yahoo hosting is they do not support most PHP scripts. You can only use a small, very small, list of scripts they have.
Yes, this article is about my complaints cause I needed to vent but hopefully people will find this info and it will keep them from making the same mistake as I did. I just don’t understand how Yahoo thinks they can make these changes and expect to be a competitor at all. I used to have almost 20 domains with Yahoo and I had 2 hosting accounts and I have transferred them all and now only have one hosting plan with them still and I’m working on rebuilding the site with dreamweaver before I transfer the hosting.

Hi Robby Morton,
I am also a Customer of Yahoo,
I was scammed out of my money with their Small Business Program.
It is the same thing you described above!
Yahoo pulled a sort of “Bait and Switch” on thousands of unsuspecting customers, forcing them to pay over 350% of the Fees that they signed and agreed to pay for.
$10 to $35 USD
I made a Blog about the story, it’s Located here:
http://yahoo-fraud.epsilonx5.com/?p=1
I hope to make more people aware of Yahoo’s dishonest methods of Business.
I think we need to bring these story’s to the surface,
I won’t let them get away with what I think is Fraud.
Thanks allot for your useful post.

Ahh yes,
I just realized that you left me a post on my Blog
I actually started off using software Building software, but turned to learning HMTL myself eventually (not with yahoo).
But I understand what you are saying…
Yahoo builds your website in a way, that it is not easily changeable to HTML format.
Then you are forced to stick with using Yahoo, if you don’t want to re-write all of your information.
This is very bad.
There SiteBuilder should support Dynamic interchange from Easy Builder Mode, to RAW HTML.
What I would suggest, is to load your website page (how real visitors would see it),
then “Right Click” on the page, and “View Page Source”.
You should be able to retrieve your HTML code, where it can then be used with Dreamweaver or other software, or altered by yourself.
Thanks again for sharing your experiences with the Public.
All the best to you and Good luck in your success with everything!
I’ll just keep promoting my blog to make more people aware of the situation with Yahoo,
so that more people won’t get caught in this dirty trick like we did.

Ya, I was reading your post a while back looking for other people that have had similar problems. I have actually found quite a few.
My main problem was raising the domain prices to $35 when everyone else is still at $10 and GoDaddy makes it so easy transfer your domains around and fast DNS updates, why would anybody pay that.
My second problem was switching to a real site builder. I just downloaded the site to Dreamweaver and when I needed to make small changes I just edited the code cause it doesn’t look right in design mode it puts everything in the top left corner. So I just made a new template (CSS finally) and rebuilt a couple pages a day.
